Counseling & Therapy for Children and Teens
Through therapy, children and teens will find ways to handle the challenges in their life with more confidence. This process takes into account developmental, social, and family needs. My work blends experiential/play therapy approaches with evidence based techniques such as Collaborative Problem Solving, DBT, and Mindfulness/Yoga. I specialize in addressing issues that include ADHD, school related issues, social issues, addiction, anger, mood, and anxiety challenges for children in Glastonbury and the Greater Hartford area.
School Age Children
For many young people play and creative expression is the way they communicate and get to know themselves and the world around them. My experiences as a therapist have shown the power of using a young person's joys, interests, and creativity as a means to engage his/her healing potential. Play and joyful activities also serve as a bridge for youth to learn and practice new skills. It can also be used to help children process stressful and/or traumatic life experiences. Therapy is an opportunity to try out new skills in the safety of the therapy setting.
Teens
The teen years are time of great change and transformation physically, emotionally, and socially. It is also a time where teens can start to experiment in more risky ways. The therapeutic process often includes supporting teens to find healthy ways to cope with these changes that balance their natural desire for independence with family and community needs. I specialize in working with teen addiction.
